Alternatively, you can purchase the Saalbach BIG-5 ticket with one mountain ride per cable car for a day and be transported comfortably to the respective starting points. Even with this support, the Bike Challenge will take close to a full day. It’s not about just time, it’s also about altitude metres covered. Saalbach BIG-5 at a glance
You can start the BIG-5 Bike Challenge at any of the five cable cars, they all offer maps for the entire tour. The following route, thus, is only a recommendation:
Schönleiten: Arriving at the mountain station at 1,911 m, you take the single trail eastward to the Schönleitenhütte hut, then the Asitz Trail to the Asitz mountain station in Leogang.-
Asitz: Bike to the intermediate station via Hot Shots and Flow Link (more adept bikers conquer Hangman I), then ride into the valley via Hangman II, Flying Gangster or Speedster, depending on your skill level. Take the Asitzbahn to the mountain station, ride back to the Schönhleitenhütte hut via Asitz Trail and ride the Wurzel Trail and Panorama Trail to the easy Milka Trail, then roll through central Saalbach to the Schattberg X-press.
Schattberg: Reach over 2,000 m in no time with the cable car. The X-Line, one of the longest freeride trails in Europe, awaits you now with an included snapshot. Take the steep ramp to the western summit of the Schattberg at the first fork after the snapshot station. Continue to the Buchegg Trail via Hacklberg Trail or Bergstadl Trail before reaching the Zwölferkogel valley station in Hinterglemm.-
Zwölferkogel: The intermediate station at 1,500 m is the starting point of the Z-Line, an easy to medium trail with a spectacular wall ride right before the finish. Another action snapshot station is hidden here.-
Reiterkogel: You’ve now reached the Reiterkogel valley station in central Hinterglemm. The final snapshot station awaits you right at the mountain station exit. Either the fun trail Blue Line or the tricky Pro Line cap off the challenge now.
